It amazes me that they could spell Jalapeño pepper using the eñe correctly, but they spell piñon phonetically? 174.28.83.168 20:33, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

What does the source plant look like?[]

I assume these come from a plant like most of the other new food items, but I can't seem to figure out what the plant looks like. Does anyone have a pic or description?--174.21.132.229 04:07, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

Piñon come from trees. Piñon trees, to be precise. The nuts are actually in the pinecones produced by the stumpy little coniferous trees and what you see in-game is a pile of shelled nuts (pre-shelling, the nuts are a dark brown/grey color). 97.123.70.232 23:40, November 27, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I already understand where piñon come from IRL, thank you though. What I wanted to know is if there is a plant from which you can collect them in the game. The Piñon trees in the game do not seem to yield them.--174.21.152.134 04:46, November 28, 2010 (UTC)
Why would they come from something other than a piñon tree? Were you expecting wild piñonberry bushes perhaps? 97.123.70.232 16:09, November 28, 2010 (UTC)

Where are they?[]

Is it just me or is this item far to rare to be of any use? It's almost impossible to craft Desert salads and Trail mixs - which is ashame as these items are very useful on Hardcore mode. I've only found a handful of them at Old Mormon Fort. Perhaps someone on PC could check in G.E.C.K. if there is actually a "plant" to pick these from? I'm starting to think there isn't an Obsidian somehow forgot to distribute enough of them in picked form through the game world. Perhaps it's a tiny root-like "plant" such as the Xander Root but even harder to spot?

I don't believe that there is a plant for pinyon nuts, but several merchants do stock them. Chet in Goodsprings and the Westside Co-Op would be good places to check. (Although fresh pears for trail mix are even harder to find! D:) Nitty Tok. 14:11, November 23, 2010 (UTC)
Since there isn't a single piñon tree in the game anywhere, you'd be correct. 97.123.70.232 23:40, November 27, 2010 (UTC)
They're often found on counter-tops, and can be easily overlooked. I think that contributes to the perception that they're rare.
