Mike accidently killed by PC[]
I was fairly sure Mike was killed by ghouls, but if someone has tested this, then perhaps my PC got him with a stray round, even though he was found dead in one of the outbuildings I had not been in yet. At any rate, The Mariner did accept and pay for the tools needed to complete the first of the quests regarding hull repair, but has not as yet offered the next two quests. WTF?! I killed Machete Mike for the caps thinking he wasn't important, and didn't find out until two hours later that killing him blocked me out of the Mariner's quest line. I had to start over from an earlier save and do the whole Hull Breach quest all over again, plus now I have to do the Rite of Passage over again too. How does this even make sense? I helped the Mariner get her stupid tools, but she doesn't trust me because some random guy across the island died? What, does she have spies everywhere keeping an eye out for random murders? Mike isn't even part of the Far Harbor settlement, how does she even know who he is? Also why would she even care? This sketchy asshole basically tried to rob her by offering to buy the tools from me. Then if you refuse to sell to him, he threatens you. And if you ask him why he wants them, he gives some evasive answer like he's clearly up to no good. The Mariner should be glad I killed him instead of letting him take the tools she wanted! And on top of all that, you can't even pickpocket the caps from him. Why not? No real reason. You can pickpocket literally everything else in the game, but not Magic Mike's caps. You also can't try to pickpocket the tools from him if you sell them, or take them back after killing him, apparently they just disappear when you hand them to him. It's clear the game designers just wanted to force players into choosing to either continue the quest line or get 3000 caps, even if it makes no fucking sense, so they went out of their way to make sure you absolutely can't have both and made sure the game screwed over any player who tried to be clever about it.
