Other ways of getting this mission[]

This quest can also be gotten when talking to a settler in a settlement you own. Half the time I'm back at Sanctuary, everybody's talking "We're in some real trouble here" and somebody is standing in the streets and asking about helping with the lost friend. At the rate I am getting it there may be some bug evolved (like some parts of the game do not consider it my settlement anymore and generate this quest as a "takeover opportunity"). It really is about every second time I visit there (the other time I hand it in). Rescuing the hostage and then ignoring the mission will autocomplete it after some time, some times success, sometimes fail. I also got it by exploring some place and finding some Abernathy Lady (it really is mostly them here) already sitting there. You just do the usual rescue and get the rewards after returning them. --93.232.166.224 01:39, January 2, 2016 (UTC)

  • Yes, often you will find an NPC ghosting you, waiting to tell you something. It seems as though if you don't listen to radio freedom they don't happen until you visit the settlement.

location/target bug[]

Confirmed a rumored bug: On two separate occasions I rec'd a quest from Slog resident to rescue their kidnapped trader (I already had The Slog as a settlement). The trader was supposedly being held in the Ironworks nearby.

The map doesn't display the Ironworks as the quest location; it shows the quest location wandering pretty much all over the northern portion of the map!

I clear the Ironworks for a second time - the Forged are in force as before, the leader has power armor & is a tough nut to crack, &c. - still no trader, & no completed quest.

On both occasions, when I bother to chase down the quest target, I find the trader's brahmin. Ever tried talking to a brahmin? Kill it and the quest is incomplete (with no trader loot, either). Reset attempts via console commands don't appear to do anything. 24.188.231.212 20:06, March 15, 2016 (UTC)

  • Wondering if this is related to a dead/stuck/perm-a-cripple/invisible provisioner or some combination?
I had a bot I was using as a provisioner, but he was crippled by a beastie, health at zero and non responsive, with no options to revive him. The brahmin was just waiting by his side till I meleed the bot then the brahmin ran back to camp.

Actually I just had one where I went to the given location, (visited on many occasions), and the settler wasn't there. The map marker looked funky, but I thought it was mod related.

When I follow the quest marker on the map, it turns out the "kidnapped" NPC, is doing well and scrounging around his home settlement. He is busy working on a scrounging station when I speak to him. I get the normal kidnapped settler dialogue, so I release him.

I then go to turn it in, and the NPC I need to report to is miles away somewhere, but it turns out he is a provisioner, (which is odd as I think it's a different NPC to the one who issued the quest), so he eventually comes back. 220.253.201.152 16:59, December 14, 2016 (UTC)
