There's something interesting going on with the way this weapon interacts with V.A.T.S.
Because it has an extremely low Range statistic, it lists single-digit hit chances outside of very short ranges. The interesting part is that, at long ranges, the character will automatically aim up at the correct angle needed to arc the shot into a long-distance target. Even more interesting is that, as long as the target is within the potential arc range of the shot, it will hit regardless of the terrible predicted hit chance.
With a clear path, the target will very commonly be caught in the explosion radius at least, and get caught with a direct hit surprisingly often. Several times I've sniped a target with it through V.A.T.S at extreme range, and watched as the high-arching projectile curved mid-air to home in on a strafing target and land a headshot.
The only times I've had it consistently miss were when the target was in a full run.
