Having read the description of "how Lynette came to be the person we met in Fallout 2", it sounds a lot like the designers' design of Vault City and its inhabitants were heavily influenced by Ayn Rand's various works, especially "Atlas Shrugged." Vault City is practically the secret hideaway of John Galt (though thankfully lacking his 60 page monologue from "Atlas Shrugged"), and Lynette sounds exactly like an Ayn Rand "Heroine".
