Naming[]

Just out of curiosity... if it is unmarked, how do we know the name? Prima Guide?--DrMGinius 19:16, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Its the words on the sign. Agent c 01:39, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

Marked for deletion[]

OK, this page has been marked for deletion for a couple of days now, and I'm not sure what to do with it. Keep it? Delete? Some input would be appreciated. --Sentinel 101 17:24, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

I say delete it hence why I marked it for deletion. The object in question is not notable enough to have a page dedicated to it, if anyone can think of a good reason to keep it then do so. But to me if anything it should be a entry of interest in camp McCarran page. GhostAvatar 17:53, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
It's a real-world landmark, hence, it should stay. I've removed the {{delete}} tag. --Kris User Hola 17:56, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
Well in that case if you're going off real world landmarks, it needs to be renamed Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign as it is in the real world. And since no NPC refers to this location by any name, then it cant be assumed that it is called anything different. Also something needs to be linked to it as it is a orphaned page as well.
On a side note I thought this wiki was about the games landmarks and not real world landmarks, All content should relate to the Fallout series of games, its setting or the SPECIAL character system. That says to me game land marks and not real world landmarks, since the sign has no real notoriety within the game or any of its story arch it cant be considered a landmark within the game. So I am going to put up the tag again and wait for some real input instead of your normal arbitrary choice making skills GhostAvatar 19:04, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
You misunderstand; it's a notable in-game landmark because it's a real-world landmark as well. I'll have to check what the sign looks like, it may need to be moved if the ingame sign says "Las Vegas" and not "New Vegas" but the page should not be deleted. --Kris User Hola 19:49, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
As you can see by the screenshot, the sign says "Fabulous New Vegas" so there's no need to move it again, either. --Kris User Hola 20:05, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
You will also note that it says Welcome to right above it, you have no canon sources for the naming of the sign and making many assumptions of what it is called in the Fallout Universe (if it is called anything). If you was to apply the same principle to Novac then it would be called No Vac as it is on the sign there.
Secondly my premise for deletion has no relevance to the real world landmark, just because it has notoriety within the real world DOES NOT mean it has any notoriety in the Fallout Universe, therefore not worthy of a page dedicated to it. If anything it should marked within the camp McCarran page under trivia or included in a page for New Vegas world objects and not a dedicated page to a single object that can not be interacted with by the PC. GhostAvatar 21:54, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
Why are you so obsessed with deleting THIS unmarked location as opposed to any other one? I don't understand why you're so opposed to the existence of this page when there's no logical reason to delete it. --Kris User Hola 22:00, November 4, 2010 (UTC)
Because it has no notoriety or PC interaction within the game. Notoriety is pretty evident by the fact that no other article links here, therefore shows that this page is not needed by any other article for further reading. The content of the page is nothing more than a blurb to just say that it exists. All other unmarked locations have something of notoriety e.g. encompasses a large area, has lootable item, has something of significance aka NPC's etc. If we was to follow logic then we should have pages for the Goodsprings, Nipton, Novac and other settlement signs as well, which I might add in context the Novac sign is commented on within the Novac page.
But the question is thrown back to you, why are you so against not having this page deleted? GhostAvatar 22:47, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

I'd make an exception for the Vegas sign, given its real-world significance and how symbolic of Vegas it is. Ausir(talk) 00:44, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I've been trying - and failing - to say all this time. :) --Kris User Hola 00:59, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

I thought it was important enough to add as I was wondering where it was in game, and couldn't find any directions to it. I figured if I was interested enough to go look for it, someone else must be. Agent c 01:41, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

The Smiley[]

I went to check the smiley to verify and someone beat me to it. I took a close screenshot of it, if anyone wants to see: http://twitpic.com/4wrxwy --Rooker75 21:37, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
