I did NOT need lockpicking skill or a lockpick to open the front door. After killing all the mutant guards with the help of 3 Brotherhood paladins, I then used the radio I'd picked up in an earlier encounter with a mutant patrol to trick the guards (which were already dead, but the game still awarded me 1500 XP). The body of the guard closest to the door had a holotape described as "damaged beyond repair," but writing scratched on it gives the passcode to the door. --74.229.219.4 23:07, September 16, 2009 (UTC)ReadyJohnGalt

Is it possible to sneak past every mutant if you have a 100% sneak skill? I don't want to fight the mutants because my weapons and health are not that good but I want to do this mission. I know that i can use robes to get past but what about getting out?24.5.194.180 18:34, July 13, 2010 (UTC)amooga423

Yes, is possible to enter the base sneaking, but you need a stealh boy (urrah, finally a use for them, hun?! :D) and high sneak. I had 80% in sneak and used a Stealth Boy to enter the base. Since I didn't picked Silent Running I had to walk, but no mutant could detect me unless I walk too close to them or attack them. I used this strategy to snipe them, because you can walk very futher away and then kill with impunity and without having to fight too many at the same time. Using this strategy as a substitute for the robe is not recommended, because you'll need to scape the base and the only way to do this with sneak+stealth boy is setting the time for 3 minutes and still having to fight some mutants on your way. 187.74.197.138 04:08, October 29, 2011 (UTC)

I set the base to blow up in 60 seconds, and saved right afterwards. I only have 1 save, and I can never get out of the base in time... Is there anyway for me to stop the timer, or is there a way to get out of the base quicker? Can I fix those elevators that are "Out of order" by any chance?

I can't use my Repair skill on the force field emitters, the Icon for using skills doesn't even appear. And yes, Im sure its the emitter, its the thing right next to the actual force field, and ive clicked on it a bunch of times.

Bugs[]

"For some unknown reason, if you do things in a particular order, when you set the self-destruct, the timer will go from whatever time you set it to zero, making the quest impossible to complete"

- I'm really wondering why this is still even listed. This is not a bug report. This is "sometimes bad things happen." There's no information about what order this is, no way to reproduce the bug, no way to avoid it. You could also say "If you don't do things in a particular order, when you self the self-destruct, the timer will go to zero." Because that is equally true given this absurdly vague entry. It doesn't even define whether the particular order is an order of actions within the base or not. Maybe it's "If you go the Boneyard, then the Necropolis, then plant dynamite on Set, then leave, then come back, then go to the Boneyard, then go kill Tandi in Shady Sands, then set the timer, it will instantly change to zero." There's no way to know with this report, now is there?

Without actually defining this "particular order", there's no way to demonstrate that this bug is anything more than a memory leak, save corruption, or a bad data file. All we have is taking someone's word that sometimes the timer malfunctions.

Watch this, and then you'll see the what that 'particular order' corresponds to.

Great! That's what the wiki needs to say, then. "If the player kills Lou and his minions after setting the self-destruct sequence to 3 minutes, the timer will expire early, making the quest unfinishable." The way it's written now suggests that you set the timer AFTER doing things in "a particular order", and that it just jumps to zero. Instead, you set the timer first, THEN do things, and the timer jumps to zero after certain actions (i.e., leaving the bunker). ZekeDMS (talk) 16:24, October 8, 2016 (UTC)

Behind the scenes[]

I was about to add the behind the scenes disclaimer, but it would not fit as the information can actually be confirmed by canon sources. Does this information fit better as a note rather than behind the scenes information? The speech given by Jacoren at the end of this quest is referenced in Fallout 3 by Amata after the Trouble on the Homefront quest.--DisgustingWastelander 17:26, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

Certainly sounds like a note to me as opposed to behind the scenes content. Might be worth checking with someone who has more knowledge on how we class it before changing, just in case Sakaratte (talk) 17:37, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

Amata.txt " I'm sorry. You're a hero... and you have to leave." that was the line made by F1 Overseer and Amata repeat it, both dialog and situation.27.76.100.81 16:28, March 16, 2020 (UTC)
