Analogy[]

Hey, I realized that what James says once he comes back in is like when he goes off to re-activate Project Purity. When he leaves, he says something along the lines of, "Now, I'm just going back to my office, and you stay put." When he comes back, he says something like "You're such a little explorer. Serves me right for locking you in here." His "office" is the Jefferson Memorial, the place that James left the player in is the vault, and that the player character is an explorer in the sense that he/she treks into the wasteland. Tell me if I should add something in about this... -Anonymous User

WHAT !?!?! That doesn't even make sense. The explorer part refers to you getting out of the pen, the office is the office inside the vault, and jefferson Memorial has NOTHING to do with it! --89.143.186.17 14:07, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Domn-117
He's making an analogy to the part where your dad leaves you alone again. --72.192.55.156 22:42, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Thats an interesting analogy. James keeps the Lone Wanderer locked and leaves the baby Wanderer alone, but the infant manages to escape, to James' surprise. Its certainlty reminiscent of the plotline --DrMGinius 05:45, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
I see what your saying, but it's never mentioned by anyone (in-game or IRL) and isn't close enough to merit a mention in the article. Also, for the people who don't get it — dad leaving baby:baby escaping playpen :: dad leaving vault:player escaping vault. (read ":" as "is to", and "::" as "as"; A:B :: C:D) --70.184.239.162 04:41, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Moved from article[]

  • A glitch allows the player to escape Fallout Wiki into the Capital Wasteland during this quest. After the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats are chosen, move over to the door which James will come through, standing on the right side. Saving first is advised. When it opens, run and hop over it, mashing the Activate button, trying to make it close. If done right, the door will close before James enters. Now rush over to the next doorway (note that jumping is slower than just walking, and should be ceased as soon as the door closes). If it can be gotten through before James can open the door again, the player can crawl through a hallway, open a door, and enter a bluish-gray void. Once entered, the Escape! quest will be triggered, albeit with elements of it missing. The player will also be unable to go into third-person or attack. Note that if the second doorway is not entered in time, a second Very Hard locked door will spawn in it (giving the effect of an instantaneous close), forcing a restart.
    • If Fallout Wiki is escaped after this, speaking with Lucas Simms in Megaton allows for normal control to be regained. However, this has the nasty effect of causing the Pip-Boy to clip through the player's face when brought up, making it impossible to see.
      • Although the Pip-Boy cannot be seen properly, it can still be used by blind trial and error.
    • The player will appear as a miniaturized adult when this is done, viewable by sitting in a chair (though the ones in this mission won't work), or entering third-person view (which can be accessed after speaking to Lucas Simms). Their voice will also be that of an adult's. Despite the size and speed change, this will not allow the player to walk through small spaces.Kingclyde 20:21, 26 May 2009 (UTC)kingclyde
    • It also has the amusing/annoying side effect, of continuing to play the "Dada!" baby talk clip, every time you use something. However, because you're using the adult model at this point, you're not considered a kid - unlike if you attempt to "Escape!" as a 10 year old. One other thing worth mentioning: regardless of your character's scale (the mini-adult is set to 40% of the full size), it still uses the full scale ragdoll "skeleton". This leads to a really hilarious (if not a bit creepy) glitch, if you happen to die. Essentially, it stretches the model's real (scaled) skeleton, to the size of the ragdoll bones - turning you into some weird cross between Slenderman and a stick figure. Edit summary[]

Forgot to include it in the description of my edit--I cleaned up grammar, spelling, and usage. 70.126.107.48 23:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Cell Name[]

Does anyone know what the cell name is for where you are at the start of this quest (James' room)? I've tried vault101aMS16 etc., but they all aren't in the correct part of the timeline. 92.23.104.18 21:41, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

never mind, its vault101d - i didnt think to walk through the walls to see that theres more than one version of the vault in the same cell 92.23.104.18 21:56, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

First indication[]

Does the overseers line in the transition come before or after james says that you'll have to get used to the light, because if it does, that would be the first reference you arn't born in the vault--81.155.19.209 00:58, March 20, 2011 (UTC)

Beyond the obvious conversations with Dr. Li (Project Purity), and Moriarty (Megaton)? That's probably why they muddled the dialog in that section. If the player heard Moriarty's line distinctly - it would be pretty obvious you were born outside the vault - as soon as Moriarty opened his mouth. Digital Utopia (talk) 03:25, July 6, 2014 (UTC)

Notable content template[]

Why are we using it on the transcript of the background voices? All we are doing is masking half the transcript to those who want to to read while listening.

Although the volume of inline quotes would justify its use in general (I'm having a bugbear about this template being needlessly used right now, I know), it doesn't fit the overall intention of transcription. Unless anyone has any objections, I am going to take this off in a few days. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 17:44, May 27, 2017 (UTC)
