Survey marker

Survey markers are world objects in Fallout 76.

Background[]

Permanent and embedded disks placed to mark key survey points, placed before the Great War by the United States Geological Survey. The markers were used in geodetic and land surveying.^[1]

Characteristics[]

Informally referred to as benchmarks, these landmarks indicate elevation in feet above sea level as well as contain horizontal position markers used for triangulation.^[2] Several points in Appalachia have markers placed, each labeled with a name, unique number, and instructions to contact the director of the agency in Washington, D.C. for more information.

Canaan 4450		North of the Top of the World - on a cliff, next to two red scenic telescopes. Fast travelling to the Top of the World places one directly next to the marker.
Cheat 4848		Halfway between Sunnytop Station and Fort Atlas - on a cliff above the coal depot, east of the railroad tracks.
Lansing 876		Southern side of the North Kanawha lookout - on the ground behind the wooden spikes.
Spruce Knob 4862		Spruce Knob (2102) Foundation (2103) - next to the wall security gate, close to Ward's office.

Notes[]

The rock where the survey marker at Spruce Knob is located was removed from its original spot, which overlooked Spruce Knob Lake, and tossed nearby during the construction of Foundation.

• The survey markers in were created by world artist John Valenti.^[3][4]
• The benchmarks are based on real world survey markers, part of a national database maintained by the National Geodetic Survey (NGS), successor agency to the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USCGS).
