Prohibition was a period of time in the United States in which the production and sale of alcoholic beverages was made illegal with the passing of the 18th amendment to the Constitution of the United States on January 16, 1919 and going into effect a year later. It would be later repealed with the 21st amendment in 1933 after 13 years.

Background[]

With no reputable sources of alcohol available, people across the country began to make their own through a process known as moonshining. In Point Lookout, Marguerite's family made a living making and selling moonshine, and would continue to do so long after Prohibition ended.[1]

Similarly taking advantage of the general populace's want of alcohol, mobs would provide illegal alcohol making a fortunes in the process, such as the notorious Al Capone.

The secret room built in an old mine access beneath The Rusty Pick, which was used by Mick Flanagan and other unionists to organize during the Automation riots, served as a speakeasy during Prohibition.[2]

Notes[]

At the X-13 research facility at Big MT before the War, a Dr. Mori was brewing their own alcohol they called "Battle Brew." At one point they got into a fight with their supervisor Dr. Calis, who they claimed "threw a prohibitionist fit" about the still and forced them to move it.[3]

Appearances[]

Prohibition is mentioned in the Fallout 3 add-on Point Lookout, the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Old World Blues, and Fallout 76.
