Nellie Bly (May 5, 1864 – January 27, 1922)[1] was an American journalist.
Background[]
A Charleston Herald article references Nellie Bly's investigation of the Women's Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell's Island in New York City. The author compares Bly's investigation to that of Eleanor Tarquin's at the Allegheny Asylum in Appalachia in 2061. In both cases, lawmakers and other officials "wiped their hands of the situation."[2]
