Faculty,

As many of you are aware, after budget cuts in the districts surrounding Morgantown we have experienced a large influx of students. Unfortunately we only have so many textbooks on hand, and the paper mill has just informed us they are being diverted towards supporting the war effort.

Accordingly Morgantown HS is implementing a policy of two students per textbook, and three students per our largest and most expensive textbooks i.e. for anatomy and physiology and other hard sciences.

Additionally students will not be able to take textbooks home with them for studying, as this would be unfair to the students who don't currently have the book in question.

Starting today all textbooks will be kept secure in Principal Stevenson's office, and will be distributed each morning as needed. Superintendent Branley wanted me to pass along his gratitude for your cooperation as resources become more scarce.

One of my kids overheard me cursing in the stairwell this morning. He asked me why I was so sad, and it took me a moment to understand how on earth he would have come to that conclusion when I'd just been cussing out the governor's office something fierce.

I'm not proud to say that it didn't occur to me until a few hours later that he simply couldn't get his head around the teacher being furious, so it seemed to him like sadness. I didn't have the heart to tell him that considering what's coming, he should be mad, too. And if my job is really to help kids prepare for the future, then in that regard I am failing them.

For now, back to the stairwell.

They told us this morning that even more cuts are coming. I can't understand it...what else is even left to take? The students are already sharing books, lockers, pens, pencils, and desks.

And where exactly is that money going, anyway?
