Merle Robert Travis (November 29, 1917 – October 20, 1983) was an American country and western singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His songs' lyrics often discussed both the lives and the economic exploitation of American coal miners.

Merle Travis played the guitar on the track "Stars of the Midnight Range", sung by Johnny Bond.
Fallout 76[]
The songs "Sixteen Tons", "Dark as a Dungeon", written by Merle Travis, play on Appalachia Radio in Fallout 76, performed by Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Travis also wrote the lyrics to "Steel Guitar Rag", performed by Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, and played the guitar on the track "Headin' Down the Wrong Highway", sung by Johnny Bond. These songs also appear on Appalachia Radio.
