Isabella Proud called her Melinda because she thought she was a girl as she walked very gracefully. She was friendly to Isabella and Jason because of the resin on their radiation suits. It is mentioned in Isabella's journal that she comes to meet her sometimes at the research camp and in another entry, mentions that she didn't come to meet her.
