John Steinbeck (February 2, 1902 – December 20, 1968) was an American author.
Background[]
Steinbeck was known for his prolific writings, many of which are considered classics of Western literature, including The Grapes of Wrath, which won him a Pulitzer Prize. Over his career, he authored 33 works, including 16 novels, six non-fiction books, and two short story collections. In 1962, Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize in Literature.

- John Cassidy read The Grapes of Wrath and used a character's name as inspiration to name his daughter Rose of Sharon Cassidy.[1]
- Charles Dieter Jr., an aspiring pre-War writer, attempted to encourage himself when faced with disturbances to his writing by claiming that Steinbeck and Ernest Hemingway likely also faced such disturbances.[2]
