Hiram Bingham III (November 19, 1875 – June 6, 1956) was an American explorer and politician.

Background[]

In 1911, Bingham discovered the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, despite not being a trained archaeologist. He received guidance from local farmers and made the discovery known to the public that same year. He later served as a United States Senator.

Notes[]

The archaeologist exam at the Pioneer Scout camp has a question that directly references Bingham. It asks "Hiram Bingham III was an American explorer. He went to South America looking for ruins, and wound up finding them! Which famous ruin did he reveal to the outside world?" Machu Picchu is the correct answer to the question.[1]

Appearances[]

Hiram Bingham III is mentioned only in Fallout 76, introduced in the Wild Appalachia update.
