... the child Independence was born ...Boston landmark inscriptions

John Adams was a founding father and signatory of the Declaration of Independence who served as the second president of the United States of America (1797—1801).[1]

Background[]

John Adams was born near Quincy, Massachussetts.[2] He became involved in the movement against British colonial rule, including participating in debates in the Old State House of Boston, the place where he famously declared that 'the child Independence was born.'[3] During the Revolutionary War, Adams was one of the signees of the Declaration of Independence.[4]

John Adams became the president of the United States in 1797, following the end of George Washington's term. In that same year, he presided over the ceremonial naming of Fort Independence in Boston, Massachusetts, which had previously been named Fort Adams.[1] His son, John Quincy Adams, would go on to become a U.S. president as well.

Prior to the Great War, a Protectron based on John Adams was stationed at the National Archives. Its job was to play the role of John Adams in Declaration-signing re-enactments, along with performing security functions.[4] His name was also used as an incorrect answer in the National Archives' pop quiz terminal.[5]

Notes[]

  • If Curie is brought to the Quincy ruins, she will comment that it was the birthplace of John Adams.[2]
  • The codebreaker exam at the Pioneer Scout camp lists Adams as an incorrect answer to which founding father invented a disk cipher later used by the U.S. Army.[6]

Appearances[]

John Adams is mentioned in Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.
