Behind the scenes[]
- "Duck and cover" was a method advised to citizens of the United States on what to do in case of nuclear war, in the event that crisis relocation programs were unable to be carried out.
- The book may be based on the late 1950s through 1960s short civil defense educational film called Duck and Cover, a film about a turtle named Bert, who would "duck and cover" at the first sign of any danger. The film was presented to students in classrooms across the United States to teach children what to do in the event of a nuclear attack on the country, and that a nuclear attack could happen at any time.
