Duke Ellington (April 29, 1899 – May 24, 1974) was an American jazz musician and orchestra leader.

Background[]

After leaving his initial musical career in Washington, D.C., Ellington shifted base to Harlem, New York City, where he became one of the central figures in the Harlem Renaissance through his appearances in Harlem's Cotton Club. He conducted an eponymous jazz orchestra and also made numerous recordings with jazz groups, as well as making numerous compositions himself. Although Ellington was one of the most influential figures in jazz, primarily due to his pioneering interest in using orchestras and big bands, he largely rejected music genres. Many of his songs, popular in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, have since become standards.

Notes[]

The musician exam at the Pioneer Scout camp lists Ellington as an incorrect answer to who the King of Rock and Roll was.[1]

Appearances[]

Duke Ellington is mentioned only in Fallout 76, introduced in the Wild Appalachia update.
