United States Department of State was a pre-War department of the United States government. The Department of State was a federal executive department responsible for the nation's foreign policy and international relations.
Background[]
On April 15, 1865, John Wilkes Booth and his two accomplices successfully assassinated the President of the United States Abraham Lincoln, and also attempted to kill his Secretary of State, though this was ultimately unsuccessful. Wanted posters for the men were made containing this information, one of which can be found in the Museum of History in Washington, D.C. in 2277.[1][2]
Before going on his archeological expedition to attempt the discovery of the lost city of Ubar, Lorenzo Cabot first had to obtain all the necessary permits from the Omani government. Despite all the bureaucracy involved, he decided it was best to go through the State Department, rather than directly to the government of Oman himself. He successfully obtained all he needed, and set out across the Atlantic Ocean in February of 1894.[3]
