"Blues For You" is an instrumental track used in the lobby of the Gomorrah in Fallout: New Vegas and on the Mysterious broadcast radio station in Old World Blues. It was originally titled "Cafard" and composed by Philippe Parès for the Sam Fox Production record label.
It is incorrectly attributed to Gabriel Parès on the Carlin CD Jazzy Vibes, only available for production music licensing from Warner/Chappell Production Music (formerly available from APM Music).[1]
Background[]
Gabriel Parès lived from 1862-1934 and was primarily known for his marching band music. He died 30 years before the track was recorded. His son, Philippe Parès, lived from 1901-1979 and was known for his work in jazz and musical theater.
Similar to "Joe Cool" (S4RM), the recording date can be determined by the matrix numbers on the original record label. The dead wax area of the record features a small "R" indicating the Sam Fox music library had outsourced its material to the RCA Records Pressing Plant in Rockaway, New Jersey which was in operation from 1954-1973.[2]
The matrix number of the record is "TR4M". However, RCA Victor implemented a variation where the "practice of switching second and third characters of custom matrix numbers began to take effect after the block of numbers passed the 10,000 mark". The matrix number therefore should read as "T4RM". Under the RCA Victor Master Serial Number Codes (III. 1963 - 1990's):[3]

- Cafard in French literally translates to "cockroach". However, it likely refers to the French idiom avoir le cafard which better translates as "to have the blues".
- The full name of the composer is "Philippe Gabriel Hippolyte Emmanuel Parès", possibly explaining the confusion between father and son.[4]
- The composition is not registered under either name in the BMI archives, but is registered in ASCAP as "Cafard" under the composer's full name.[5]
