Colonel Benjamin Franklin Kelley was an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War.
Background[]
Born in 1807,[1] Kelley served in the 1st West Virginia Infantry during the Civil War and became its colonel in May 1861. He participated in the Battle of Phillipi in June 1861, during which he was severely wounded.[2] However, he survived and eventually died in 1891. A monument to him still stands in Appalachia.[1]
