Bagman was the codename of a high-level executive in the U.S. federal government before the Great War.

Background[]

Launch codes for nuclear missiles at Fort Constantine and the Hopeville Missile Base bear Bagman's code name as an executive with high-level security clearance for the missiles' authorization codes.[1][2] Bagman also ordered the assassination of Zeus while en route to Rapidan Camp in Appalachia, with the instructions stating "long live the American way" and "God bless America."[3]

Appearances[]

Bagman is mentioned in Fallout 3, the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Lonesome Road and Fallout 76, introduced in the Skyline Valley update.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Bagman's true identity is never explicitly stated in any series entry. In the real world, the president of the United States is designated access to the Gold Codes and is the only person with authorization to launch a nuclear attack as the commander-in-chief. However, it is not confirmed if Bagman was the last President of the United States, as well as if the nuclear chain of command differed any, considering the presence of the Enclave pre-War (with which the president was affiliated).
  • In the United States, bagman is a general term referring to someone who collects or distributes the proceeds of illicit activities. However, it is also used in politics to refer to an officer in the president's entourage who physically carries the nuclear football.
