What if: The institute acquired and used an FEV-2 sample?
Premise: In 2178, Doctor Frederick of the Institute comes across two samples of FEV. After preliminary testing he and his associates find that one sample causes increased strength and growth of the subject at the cost of extreme loss of intelligence. Destroying this sample, the FEV proceed with usage of the other, which they find to produce less powerful specimens but with an increase in intelligence retention. Testing it on both their own people and kidnapped wastelanders, the Institute dumps the resulting subjects on the surface once experimentation is complete. How would post-war New England be influenced by having a higher population of "smart" mutants alongside the "dumb" ones? Would a lack of super mutant behemoths change much in the Commonwealth? Would the progress of the Institute's FEV research change if less aggressive subjects were produced? Could the smarter mutants rally their brothers instead of the strongest being in charge?
Key Notes:
•All events that would be changed are post 2178, of course
•This is assuming that the same exact test subjects were used. Strong, Hammer, Swan, Erickson, etc all exist, but have a chance of being smart mutants (note that FEV-2 does produce unintelligent mutants, but smarter than other strains and based upon the amount of radiation exposure before mutation)
