What If: The Super Mutant cures succeeded?
Premise: In 2197, a detachment of the Brotherhood of Steel in the Midwestern region finds that remnants of Unity are attempting to cure Super Mutants' sterility. In exchange for their help against the Calculator and it's forces, the MWBoS promise to help look for a cure. After years of research a cure for their sterility is finally found and distributed to the mutants in the area. Elsewhere, in Mass., an ex-Institute scientist named Virgil cures himself of being a Super Mutant entirely. Virgil succeeds at generalizing his cure for other Super Mutants and decides to offer it to others to fix their condition. How would the Wasteland be affected by the existence of both Super Mutant cures? How would Super Mutants react to the notion of transforming back into humans or being able to reproduce? Would their ability to reproduce affect their culture, becoming more stable or only fueling their wars with mankind? How would people like Ghouls and humans react to these cures? Which cure would be more used by Super Mutants, one that cures their whole affliction or only their sterility?
Key Notes:
•Due to the large amount of time between the possible cures being worked on, let's assume that the MWBoS only finished their cure a few years before Virgil did his.
•Let's also assume both cures have made it to the wider Wasteland market, and are therefore relatively available to the Super Mutant populations across the country.
Edit:
•In case anyone didn't get the implication in the premise, the cures are generalized. They will affect every strain of FEV.
•Didn't think this would be important to state, but suspension of disbelief, let's all just think under that for the purposes of this episode. Imagine that these things could actually happen in the Fallout universe.
