Please see below for important information re: discussion of diambig vs redirect

This game is certainly not "realistic" and I highly doubt it sold over a million copies, considering it's mainly a UK release.

It's not realistic as in a simulation, but it's fairly realistic for an arcade racer. It's certainly not only a UK release. I have seen it in for sale in shops in Sweden. According to the official site it was sold by Gremin in Europe and Fox Interactive in the USA. "So far, Motorhead has sold more than one million copies."[1] I guess the sales figures are for all platforms. It did sell well and for a very long time. // Liftarn

OK thanks for clearing it up :) - PhakeDC

Name confusion

[edit]

Shouldn't this page lead to the band rather than the game??

No. --Frodet 21:40, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would make much more sense for it to lead to the band rather than the completely obscure video game. LupusCanis 15:23, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The band's name is Motörhead. Whether it's the game or the band which is obscure is probably open for discussion - the spelling is not. There is even a reference to the band on the top of this article - for your convenience. --Frodet 15:32, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but you can't realistically expect someone with an English keyboard to type out the ö character, and this is the English version of Wikipedia. I've never even heard of this video game whereas the band Motorhead is iconic. It's stupid to have "motorhead" redirect to here. -- Bryan McLellan 01:05, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Again, there is a reference to the band at the top of the article page in case that's what the browser is looking for. Whether the band Motörhead is iconic or not and how it compares to the video game of this article I won't comment, but I'm sure someone will have your opposite view. :) And if you still dissagree, it is always possible to do this the democratic Wikipedia way of putting it up for a vote to move. --Frodet 06:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I vaguely remember Motorhead the game from a few years back, but then I am a compulsive gamer: I doubt anyone else does. In the grand history of video games it's not important, and in the grand history of everything I'd have to say the band are far more notable. I say Motorhead should redirect to Motörhead, with a disambig link to Motorhead (game). Makes sense to me. No one searching for the band Motorhead is going to look up the shortcut for ö, or even think they need to type it (if you ask me it's just a decorative mark, it's not like anyone pronounces it Motoorhead). I think we should have a vote (BTW, this is LupusCanis - couldn't be bothered to login) 86.20.248.21 20:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to add my vote for "motorhead" to be linked to "Motorhead (band)". Never heard of the game. Is it like Resident Evil or Tomb Raider? I played them when I was young(er). Besides, I'm pretty sure Motorhead (band) have sold more than 1m copies of all 20+ of their albums. And people are still listening to them, whereas this game is probably being used as a coaster in many a household. C'mon, we're talking the basic rights of Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey here! Wanna have fun? I came here because I was looking for the game and never heard of the band ;) Lucasbfr 22:05, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Aah, but did you come here because you have never heard of the game and wanted to find out what it was? Bubba hotep 22:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
not really, I heard some music who remind me of the game. Anyway, off topic :) If more people know the band than the game, I'm fine with making Motorhead point to the band's article with the usual "if you're looking for the game bla bla" :) Lucasbfr 01:04, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since the game and the band have different names (Motorhead vs Mötorhead) I don't see the problem. // Liftarn

The problem is that there is no ö character on standard English characters, and that Motörhead is far better known that Motorhead. This is all akin to having Mobius strip point to some obscure German stripper rather than to Möbius strip. Scott

Moving page

[edit]

Check out this google fight showing the google results from both terms. Motörhead has about 50 times more google hits than Motorhead Playstation. Motorhead should be moved to Motorhead (game), Motorhead should be turned into a redirect to Motörhead, and a disambiguation page created at Motorhead (disambiguation), which point to Motorhead (game), Motörhead, and include the slang term listed on Motorhead right now. --Daniel Olsen 06:46, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is no disambiguity between these two terms; one is spelled with an "ö" - the other is not. Even Google gets this. It's quite similar to Ardal vs. Årdal or Flam vs. Flåm or even Muli vs. Múli. If there is confusion about this, it is down to ignorance with regards to non-english letters, and Wikipedia can help recitfy this type of false doctrine. The suggested move does not add anything besides confusion and continued misunderstanding of i18n. Besides, this is not a popularity contest. --Frodet 14:44, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't agree with the move either. "Motorhead game" returns 892,000 results, which is more or less 10% of the band google hits. Well, I don't want to start an edit war, but I preferred the way it was before. -- lucasbfr talk 03:32, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
