I've worked mostly on gaming Wikis.
My Wikia Approach[]
Other people may disagree, but this is where I stand on the topic(s):
- I believe that people should become a Registered User if they want to make changes to Wikia Wikis. It's free, so I don't get why people don't bother doing this.
- I prefer to use Monobook as like being able to use Wiki code to ensure that content is displayed exactly as I want it displayed
- I think Wikia's Visual Editing dumbs down content edits and leads to lazy Users and messy code. Seriously, it's not that hard; if I can do it, so can you. ; )
- I'm completely self-taught when it comes to Wiki coding. I learned from seeing something that I liked and looking at the Source Mode content to see how it was done.
- I try to create an environment that encourages people to try new things and to THINK for themselves so that they can work stuff out, rather than to be spoon fed information. I also believe in creating a space where people have the courage to voice their opinion on something. Not everyone has to agree on everything, and the internet is big enough for everyone. However, I also believe that people should refrain from being a Jerk towards others that might have a different opinion
- I believe in making large, all encompassing rules rather than lots of tiny rules that rules lawyers can argue. Personally, I think "be nice, help other people, don't be a jerk", sums up everything, but I've also discovered that there needs to also be clear indication of what behaviour is unacceptable and will result in instant banning (again, I thought Rule #3 covers them, but people seem to be surprised when they get banned for being Jerks of epic proportions)
- If there isn't acredible (peer reviewed) reference, it's hearsay and therefore bogus
