Sorry, I thought my last update would be my... last. Here are the changes for the latest release:
Replaced crucial missing block in the second maze.
Fixed some redstone circuitry next to a super long ladder shortly after the third maze.
Moved some chests and removed some barrier blocks in fourth maze.
Fixed the bugged-out chunk in the final maze.
Changed some command block scripting in final maze for aesthetic purposes.
On, more or less, the fifth anniversary of the release of the first beta of this adventure map is this new update!
I've updated the map to optimize it for Adventure mode! I've also made a bunch of other changes and removed some errors (like some missing emeralds...). I've tested it but it's always possible I may have missed something so let me know if you find anything that should be fixed. Also, let me know if you enjoyed it!
This should be the final update. I made a few tweaks so that the map plays better on Minecraft 1.7+. I also added a shortcut through the cloud maze for those who felt it was too difficult.
Possible final update for this map. It now has 7 whole mazes! I'm not going to paste any images of the final maze. You'll have to see it for yourself. It's not overly breath-taking or anything. Just want to leave the final maze a mystery, though I suppose it's not much a mystery for fans of Super Mario 64. Download the 08/17/2013 map here: https://www.dropbox....ney08.17.13.zip
EDIT (05/27/2013):
Map updated with a new maze. I've also made a few edits here and there to the other mazes, like reducing the explosion size for some of the mines in the Minefield Maze. Most of the edits are based on what I've spotted in videos of youtubers who have tried out my map. Let me know if you spot anything or if you plan on uploading a playthrough on youtube.
Map updated once again with a new maze. Please let me know what you think or if you spot any errors. Also, check out the Youtube videos I linked to if you want to watch others play through part of the map.
Okay, I've completed the second maze. It's broken up into three parts. But I really need feedback from you guys. I need to know if the lighting is good. I need to know if there's enough food present or if there's excess food. If possible, I'd like it if someone could play through these two mazes with a partner to see how well that works.
I also need to know if there are any bugs or errors I may have overlooked. Like doors being left open or puzzles being left solved or whatever. Or maybe there are flaws in the puzzle designs. Any feedback would be appreciated, really.
I've updated my WIP. The next maze I'm working on isn't complete but I wanted to show people that I am still working on this. I am currently working on the next maze and although it's incomplete, the section between the first and second mazes is more or less complete.
Actually, there's still a huge structure I need to start building soon... but it should be fairly simple. Just very... very big.
Also, made a minor change to the rules in the manual.

ORIGINAL POST (12/01/2012):
Hi, everyone. This is my first adventure map-type thing. It's called An Amazing Journey.
Ever draw mazes when you were younger and put all sorts of obstacles in every room until the entire sheet was just jam-packed with lead because of all the drawing? That's what I want to do here in this adventure map.
So it's not the typical adventure map maze that's small and cramped.
(It's also hopefully not the typical adventure map filled with typos.)
I want this map to be loaded with stuff. Right now, I have a maze built on the map but it's a small one. Future maps will be about 2.5 times the size (all in width). You can check out the images below and the (outdated) video to get an idea of what I've created so far.
(Pictures in the spoiler)
Here is the video:
Note that the video is really outdated (Minecraft Beta?).
The game won't contain much story but don't think there isn't anything in there to read. The manual itself is 22 pages long.
I'm open to suggestions and recommendations. I don't plan on using much redstone circuitry or have any enemy mobs to fight. I want my adventure map to be simple, fun, and unique. The goal is to finish this adventure map with 3 to 5 mazes in addition to the one already in there. I don't plan on adding many jumping puzzles. I figure the difficulty should be in simply accumulating as much treasure as possible and reaching the end of the maze with fun, non-frustrating diversions along the way. Not to say those diversions won't be void of any danger...
The game was made without any mods but I did use tools (MCEdit, INVedit). I also used the default texture pack that comes with the game so if you plan on using a different one, keep this in mind.
Download the map here: https://www.dropbox....zingJourney.zip
Please read the Read Me in the zip file before playing. The Manual is available in-game and in the zip file as well.
I'm still kinda new at this so bear with me.
And yes, the mazes will be LOOSELY based on Super Mario 64...
If you'd like to see Youtube videos of people trying out my map, please check out the following (these videos are of older versions of this map):
I updated the map again. There a whole new maze to go through. Please read the first post for more information. Remember, this is still a work in progress.
Okay, an update to the map. With the plans I have for this map and the amount of time it's taking me to get each maze done, seems like I'll be good and done with the whole thing in five months. Really hope it doesn't take that long.
Hi, I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread or to continue with this one. It's been a year and a half since I last posted on here with an update, though I did regularly edit the first post until I finally completed the map.
I thought I'd let everyone know that An Amazing Journey has received one last update. Check the first post for more details.
Hey TheZauis! I just wanted to let you know me and my bae Rainna had a blast playing your map. We are still stuck in the deep because we are kinda more silly type gamers you could say. You mind if we post it on our youtube channel? Probably going to be a 3 part series, then going to do a play of you're second one cus we are having so much fun. Anyways, awesome map and thank you for putting in the time to make it #I<3Bert
Oh, hey, I just viewed your video. Good job so far. You really understood the purpose of the cabin at the beginning.
Honestly, the toughest part of the game is the Maze of the Three Regions, in my opinion. The cloud has lots of parkour-type stuff, the maze after that is very puzzling, and the third region just has a lot of booby traps. Once you get beyond that hump, I think the rest of the game is a bit more straightforward and relies more on simple puzzle-solving, with really difficult moments being more spread out.
But as I said in my comment to your video, don't worry if you feel like you have to cheat to get past a maze. If you're not sure where to go or what to do, you can always enter ghost mode to just fly anywhere. I'll be keeping an eye on your videos in case it seems like you need some help.
It's up to you whether you finish the entire map or not but keep in mind that there is an ongoing story and you might be a little confused on what the characters are talking about in the second map if you haven't finished the first.
Also, I've always been rather fond of Bert but he doesn't show up in the second adventure map. That may or may not change in the third map, which I'm currently working on...
Thanks for checking it out. This is a really fun map. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Bert in part 3 lol, he reminded me of dungeon man from Earthbound but idk if that was too far so I edited out as to avoid sounding not too dumb a lot, I left in the hot tub reference to walking around tho I'm super stoked that I still have the 2nd one to play w/ Rainna. I'll def keep in touch if thats cool. You are good at what you do sir.
I guess, in a way, Dungeon Man inspired me to put signs all around the mazes. But I also got similar inspirations from World of Goo and Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
If you're interested, you can find a teaser for the third part in the WIP board.
