“We enjoyed working with Irena on one of the most significant projects for a very important and large client. Irena was a great manager on the client-side. Her great sense of art and detail and her experience in the field of UX for games helped us take the project to the next level. Her great approach and personality further strengthened our relationship with the client and contributed to a pleasant and friendly working environment with my team. I hope that our paths will meet again and we will work together with Irena. I will always recommend her as a manager and UX specialist.”

What are the advantages of cross-platform gaming?
Cross platform is the future of gaming. Period. Considering PC gaming is less than 25% the market, and console less so, not supporting mobile devices for cross play is simply a choice to make less money. But it’s not about money. It’s about the players. We need to make sure we bring games to where the players are, and players want to access games regardless of if they’re home at their gaming rig or on the move public transit. A commitment to cross platform is a commitment to your players - and they will reward you for it with higher engagement numbers and LTV. Think it’s too hard? Hire more UX designers. They’ll take good care of you and quadruple the reach of your game. Win win.

How can you design stories that encourage player creativity and expression?
Having too many stories and narratives driving player engagement will actually undermine a player’s creativity - why? Because they’re spending all their time going through your content and not creating their own. The best stories are player made, in a rich world full of characters, circumstances, and rich environments - with the stories created by those same players. Give them great tools, build them a playground, and set them free. They’ll be creative if they’re inspired by the world you create.

How do you manage creative differences with your team?
Creative differences are opportunities to listen and learn. In game development, many have their pet ideas and pet agendas, some of which might derail direction or inadvertently pivot development. This is where tools like personas and pillars come into play. Your pillars are your first principles of what makes your game special, and your personas should represent your target audience. When you use tools like the above to anchor direction, different creative opinions suddenly become depersonalized and manageable because the argument is no longer between humans and is now between your former goals and this new perspective. These are two of many great tools to use to weigh creative misalignments.
