Last weekend I had the pleasure of moderating a workshop (by CISOs, for CISOs) with Torsten Jüngling about this topic at the SEKOP2024 conference. 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐮𝐩 1) 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 & run an ISMS with regular checks to find deficiencies and areas to invest. 2) If you find a gap, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰, or rather need to build the people, processes & overall organization first. 3) I love to 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 by engaging with VCs via programs like Insight IGNITE, and guides like the Momentum CyberScape (https://lnkd.in/dnaVyi7x). 4) 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐩 - check where you have outdated technology that might need a review, whether you leverage all features of technology you use, and which capabilities you are (deliberately?) not covering yet. 5) Go to the market and 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝, and avoid bringing home "CISO conference presents". 6) 𝐀𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐛𝐨𝐱, running PoC after PoC, for the sake of trying new things out. This is neither good for your own company, nor the vendors you work with. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞?
