About us
The Hidden Genius Project was founded in 2012 by five Black male entrepreneurs and technologists unnerved by the dramatic juxtaposition between the high unemployment of Black male youth and the plethora of career opportunities within the local technology sector. To address this challenge, they established a program to connect young Black males with the skills, mentors, and experiences that they need to become high-performing entrepreneurs and technologists in a 21st-century global economy. Our mission is to train and mentor Black male youth in technology creation, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills to transform their lives and communities. We seek to reveal the true potential of Black male youth and transform their communities from the inside out. Through our holistic student-centered, project-based approach, we invest in young black men, give them access to technology training, and plug them into an ecosystem of innovation and empowerment through our Intensive Immersion, Catalyst, and Community Partner Programs.

We are honored ❤️ to be featured by The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF) regarding our efforts to equip our young people and their communities with the tools, skills, and resources to support today’s AI-driven labor market alongside PJMF President Vilas Dhar and Dr. Jonah Edelman, co-founder and Executive Officer of Stand for Children. As our CEO Dr. Brandon Nicholson said, the key to equipping young talent for an #artificialintelligence workforce is to “anchor on what our young people love and what gets them out of bed every day.” Click the link below to read more about this insightful conversation that is rooted in shining a light on the creativity, talent, and aspirations of Black communities and building a future that celebrates diversity and representation. #ai #machinelearning #learntocode #youthmentorship #blacknonprofit
Partner Spotlight | How are today’s leading changemakers equipping young talent for an AI-driven labor market? In March, PJMF President Vilas Dhar was joined by Dr. Brandon Nicholson, CEO of The Hidden Genius Project, and Dr. Jonah Edelman, co-founder and Executive Officer of Stand for Children, as well as co-founder of the Management Leadership for Tomorrow certification program, to engage with this question. Dr. Nicholson notes that the key is to “anchor on what our young people love and what gets them out of bed every day.” Both men lead organizations committed to shining a light on the creativity, talent, and aspirations of Black communities and building a future that celebrates diversity and representation. Here are a few takeaways from the discussion: ➡️ Start from an assets-based framework. Before engaging in workforce development for an AI era, leaders must identify and ground efforts in participants’ unique genius and potential. ➡️ Prioritize community ownership of programs and solutions. Both leaders emphasize community agency in their programs, designing platforms with and for communities of color and amplifying community insights for policy change. ➡️ Incorporate ongoing, holistic support grounded in community history and context. Preparing young people to excel in today’s labor market requires both hard skills training and culturally-informed mentorship, coaching, networks, and equitable, inclusive workplaces. ➡️ Build partnerships with decision-makers who can help scale your impact. Policy and investment decisions should be made in consultation with practitioners and communities at the forefront of impact – to transform not only our institutions, but also society at large. The emerging role of AI in the workplace is a wake-up call for us all. How is your team working to build more inclusive and future-forward spaces for professional growth and shared progress?
