In an effort to enhance patient care and address alcohol and substance abuse more effectively, hospitals across New Mexico are implementing the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program in their emergency departments. This initiative aims to identify, intervene, and offer treatment resources for patients at risk of alcohol and/or substance use disorders. Beginning July 1, 2024, Gila Regional Medical Center will be providing collaborative SBIRT services in the emergency department, ensuring early intervention and offering support to patients at risk for alcohol and/or substance use disorder.
