Vial of Life program Presentation at the Rotary Club of Sapulpa, OK. Presented by Lindsey L. Williams, President, Rotary Club of Owasso, OK. The Rotary Club of Owasso, in partnership with the Owasso Fire Department, launched the Vial of Life program on February 1, 2024, for home-bound seniors, housebound disabled veterans, and residents who may need emergency care. The Vial of Life program is nationally recognized as saving countless lives each year by providing emergency responders with life-saving medical information during an emergency. We aim to provide the Vial of Life kits free of charge to Owasso and the surrounding community. The Owasso Rotary Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit If your senior parent, housebound disabled veteran, or another family member had a medical emergency and were alone, they might be unconscious or confused. If so, who would provide the crucial medical information that EMS personnel need in an emergency? Even if awake and aware, people don't always remember details in a crisis. This is when the free Vial of Life kits can save a life! Our goal is to help medical personnel make the best decisions regarding emergency treatment for Owasso, OK, and surrounding areas by providing a Vial of Life Kit for the residents who need it. "The Vial of Life Kit is designed to speak for the residents when they can't speak for themselves." Vial of Life Program: https://lnkd.in/gXMqbYwR

It can take only 15 minutes of your time to save a life! Great story on BBC breakfast today looking at very fit professional footballers who suffered cardiac arrest and were lucky enough to have full medical support on hand to revive. Given so many people suffer cardiac arrest without medics close, it's great that the British Heart Foundation have put together a free online 15 minute interactive CPR training course. 1. If someone is unconscious and not breathing properly, call emergency services and ask someone close to find a defibrillator 2. Start CPR. If you’re by yourself, don’t leave the person alone to find a defibrillator, emergency services will bring one. Don't worry about hurting the person with chest compressions - they're already clinically dead! 3. Use a defibrillator. Follow the instructions on the defibrillator. This will give an electric shock to the heart. Use alongside CPR until help arrives Cardiac arrests can happen to anyone, at any time, at any fitness level - better to be prepared! https://www.bhf.org.uk/cpr #cpr #cardiacarrest #bhf #15mins #savealife

With Restart A Heart Day just around the corner (16 October) could I please ask everyone on here to learn this most important life skill. Remember, that there are nearly 30000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. This means that sadly only 1 in 10 will survive… having the skills and confidence to take action could absolutely make a difference. Remember, the worst thing you can do in that situation is to do nothing… #cpr #cprsaveslives https://lnkd.in/eQ3MhcQm

As the General Election approaches, we're urging the next UK Government to take decisive action to ensure 24/7 access, and protection, of helipads at Major Trauma Centres and specialist hospitals across the UK. 24/7 access to an on-site helipad at a Major Trauma Centre and/or specialist hospital removes the need for secondary land transfers, ensuring critically ill patients receive optimum speed to treatment, day or night. For many seriously ill patients, this could represent the difference between life and death. Almost all hospital helipads are classified as unlicensed heliports and aerodromes, lacking formal safeguards. Additionally, air ambulance charities are not currently listed as consultees in planning conversations with UK-wide NHS authorities or Local Planning Authorities. This hinders the air ambulance communities’ ability to stay informed and be involved in decision-making processes regarding lifesaving critical care. If you agree that these issues need tackling, you can add your voice to our open letter to the next UK Prime Minister: https://lnkd.in/eBT5mUkU #AirAmbulances #HosptialHelipads #EmergencyCare #CriticalCare #SavingMoreLivesTogether #GeneralElection

This is 100% on point. Elected officials have no true understanding of the costs of the service they get versus what they are paying into it. They simply want an ambulance to appear when their residents call 911. A necessary goal obviously but not one that comes without a price tag. I for one believe in most sections of the nation a hybrid response model is the model that needs to be enacted. Volunteer and career staff working together. Both are professionals, one does it in their spare time and one does it for a living. It can work and we are seeing it work in different sections of the nation. Without a hybrid model, the tax payers have to be prepared for quite a large tax hike as the cost to provide service is not anywhere near the amount that the tax payer is currently paying.
This is what happens when officials don't understand that it costs close to a million dollars a year to operate those two ambulances 24/7. Even if it were great reimbursement in the area, 3000 calls a year wouldn't cover the cost of operation. EMS isn't free, it never has been but for years volunteer agencies in NYS have provided the service for what "seemed" to be free because they operated on minimal donations with free labor, so they didn't bill patients. Those days are over and it's time for legislators, mayors, supervisors, etc. to come to the realization that they need to subsidize EMS due to low reimbursement rates paid to EMS providers.

VIDEO. You live in the hospital? 😳. Well, do you know of a better way to understand everything, well almost everything about hospitals? How they work, how they are run, what every machine and ward does, know a lot of the staff, a day in the life of a hospital. I lived in every single hospital my mother was in. I made some business sacrifices, but I was never going to leave her side, just too loyal and faithful a son. People think you are staff. When they announce that visiting hours are over, some hospitals tell you that you can stay, you sleep on the floor or a chair, some even give you a cot somewhere in the hospital or a private room overnight. Every hospital is different, some don't allow overnight stays, but a number of hospitals in Western Canada have a completely different philosophy and approach than hospitals in the rest of Canada, to patients' family members, friendliness to family members of patients' families, patients' family rooms and accommodation, or they find you a place to stay near to the hospital, some even have other buildings on hospital campus especially for patients' families to stay. You know a lot of things about hospitals, even different philosophies and operations. Click on the exit on the top right to access the video. You can learn so much about hospitals, if you really want to.

As part of our commitment to expand access to quality health care, Helmsley has granted $11.6 million to three health systems in Nevada, bringing life-saving #ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) technology for patients in rural communities suffering from acute cardiac and pulmonary failure. The availability of ECMO provides timely medical support to those experiencing severe respiratory and cardiovascular distress who face additional challenges around physician shortages, lack of equipment, and geographic barriers to emergency treatment. The grants will go to Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Siena Hospital, Renown Health Foundation, and University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC), funding physician and staff travel to active extracorporeal life support centers, training equipment, consultation services, and other tools for program expansion across the state. “ECMO can be a game changer for patients with severe heart and lung conditions,” said Walter Panzirer, a Helmsley Trustee. “Without ECMO, hospitals have to transfer patients to other facilities, and those who are too unstable for transport could die before receiving needed care.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dSBcE5Eb

Every second counts in a cardiac emergency! You can make a life-saving difference: Follow the Chain of Survival. 1️⃣ Call 911: Quick action is crucial. Dial emergency services immediately. 2️⃣ Start CPR: If the person is unresponsive, begin chest compressions. You can help sustain life until professional help arrives. 3️⃣ Use an AED: Grab an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and follow the instructions. It can restart the heart's normal rhythm. Survival depends on all of us being prepared. Will you join us in supporting this critical mission? Together, we can make a difference. Visit www.sca-aware.org/donate to contribute and help raise awareness. Let's save lives together! #ChainOfSurvival #CPR #AED #HeartHealth #Donate2SCAF
