  • Our student community needs don't end even when school is out. Thank you to our partners HelloFresh , No Kid Hungry, and Second Helpings Atlanta (SHA) , for providing 800 families with fresh, nutritious meal kits, making a significant impact in the South Atlanta and East Lake communities. The meal kits were distributed at Phoenix Academy and South Atlanta High Schools, two of our Communities In Schools of Atlanta partner schools. #allinforkids

  • Congratulations to the more than 100 graduates who have officially become Communities In Schools of Atlanta alumni! Our 3rd annual IGNITE alumni induction ceremony was a tremendous success. We proudly inducted over 100 high school graduates into our Alumni Association, bringing our total to over 400 student alumni success stories. Our alumni programs expand our work by providing support services to high school graduates as they take their big next steps in life, whether it be enrolling in college or a University, enlisting in the military, starting a career, or becoming entrepreneurs. It has been our honor to help them reach the critical milestone of high school graduation and we are so excited to share in their journey as they go on to achieve their full potential in life.

  • This summer, eight of our Communities In Schools of Atlanta students are attending Morehouse College to find out what it's like to be a "Morehouse Man" through the Morehouse Trio Summer program. Students from North Clayton High School and Forest Park High School will spend the month of June taking college courses while living on the Morehouse College Campus. They will be engaging in interactive workshops, college classes, and weekend exploration trips. They will end their summer with a trip to our Nation's Capital exploring museums and monuments along with a college tour to Howard University. Exposing our students to life outside of their schools and communities is part of how we shape the future for student's with the most need, showing them what it means to reach their full potential. #allinforkids

  • It's been a busy week as our CEO Frank Brown made his way to our nation's capital to visit Georgia lawmakers for the “Welcome to Washington” constituent event hosted by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff. We are so grateful to Sen. Ossoff for his unwavering support of quality, accessible and safe education for all students. We were also thrilled to attend the inspiring Sandy Hook Promise “Promise Champions Reception Gala." The exciting and informative evening highlighted the progress Sandy Hook Promise is making towards keeping our youth safe from gun violence, while also focusing on the hard work that still lies ahead. The event featured partners like Communities In Schools of Atlanta that help Sandy Hook Promise fulfill its mission of preventing gun violence in schools. Pictured are Sen. Ossoff, Sandy Hook Promise Co-Founder & Co-CEO Nicole Hockley, and U.S. Representative Lucy McBath. #allinforkids

  • Cross Keys High School graduate Mary Jane Polaco says she credits her success to the people who supported her and believe in her, including her family, friends and Communities In Schools of Atlanta staff. Four months after she began her senior year at Cross Keys, her father suffered an accident that left him homebound. Mary Jane stepped in to care for him while balancing her school work. Despite the challenge of making it to school each day, she kept pursuing her dream to graduate high school and become a nurse. She set a goal to attend Georgia State University and will soon be a part of the university she has worked so hard to join. "CIS of Atlanta, through its staff and sessions on college enrollment, advice, and self-love, helped me clarify my ideas and encourage me to believe in myself," she said. Now she has advice for other students who may doubt they can achieve their goals. "It's okay if sometimes you feel pressured, it's okay to be afraid, it's okay if sometimes you don't believe in yourself, all of that is normal, we are human beings and we are not perfect. Bad feelings are temporary and surrounding yourself with people who bring positive things to your life is the best thing there can be. Seeking help is not synonymous with weakness or inferiority, getting help from a person with experience makes you choose the best path to reach your purpose, so it is not wrong to seek help, you will never be a bother, there will always be more than someone who is willing to help you." • Newly minted DM Therrell High School graduate Isaiah Webb discovered his career path through Communities In Schools of Atlanta services. Isaiah will pursue college in Florida, and has aspirations to become a Delta pilot. He says he will also pursue a career in politics thanks to a meeting he had with Atlanta City Council Member Marci Collier-Overstreet this year. We work to make sure our seniors achieve their dreams by providing them with one-on-one support, along with programming and experiences that help them see their full potential. • Our seniors go on to become leaders in our community. Despite the odds that face them, receiving extra support means they get a fair chance at the success we know they can achieve. Clarkston High School graduate Kamora Waller will be attending Georgia State University starting this summer. Kamora is gifted in the arts and has aspirations of becoming a professional singer. We applaud her for beginning her college career early and we look forward to hearing more from this stand-out star.
