The dracthyr are one of the playable races in World of Warcraft, introduced in Dragonflight. They are available to both the Alliance and the Horde, the second race in World of Warcraft to have this option after the pandaren. The dracthyr choose their faction at character creation. They are unique in that they can only select the new Evoker class.
Originally starting at level 58, dracthyr start at level 10 since The War Within, and have their own starting zone, the Forbidden Reach. Dracthyr can alternate between a humanoid and draconic form[1] using [Visage]. Both forms can be customized. The aesthetic is not tied to the magic the dracthyr uses.[2]
Dracthyr are initially only able to fly to a limited extent using [Soar]. Once they complete their starting zone and have unlocked dragonriding on their account, they learn [Empowered Soaring] and [Expedited Takeoff], and inherit all of the abilities and talents available to normal dragonriding mounts.

Creation screen description
Infused with the magic of the dragonflights, the dracthyr combine the resourcefulness of mortals with the power of dragons.
Opening cutscene
Players are first introduced via an animated cutscene, which depicts flashbacks of their last memories.
- Lightning strikes periodically reveal silhouettes of a dracthyr army. A blizzard surrounds your vision, while the sounds of battle fill your ears.
- Unknown male yells: Talons! To the fore!
- Unknown male says: Stay with me.
- Unknown female yells: On the flank! Move!
- A flash of Neltharion in his visage and wielding the Oathbinder appears.
- Unknown female yells: Ebon Scales! Fall back!
- Unknown male yells: Fall back!
- Unknown male yells: Retreat! Retreat!
- Raszageth yells: [roars]
- Raszageth devastates the army with her lightning breath. You see flashes of her leading proto-drakes in battle against the army and fighting in the sky with dragons, while interspersed with lingering visions of the War Creche.
- Unknown female yells: Argh!
- Unknown male yells: Argh!
- You blink repeatedly as you focus on a panicked dracthyr reaching out towards you. As silence falls, your vision settles upon the War Creche once again.
- Unknown male says: [echoing voice] Sleep...
- Shadows envelop your vision as you fall into stasis.

Notes
- The dracthyr are a "two form" race, like the worgen, though aren't forced into their natural form by simply being in combat; there are select abilities, like [Living Flame], that can be used in visage form. Most other abilities cause them to dispel their visage.
- To supplement limited Transmogrification options in their natural form, they have worn armor that's customizable at the barber. Dracthyr only share the shoulder and belt appearances across their visage and dracthyr form. All armor pieces are visible on the visage form.
- The dracthyr were conceived before the evoker class.[3]
- Dragonflight is required to play the dracthyr evoker, and during the expansion players were limited to one dracthyr per realm as they are only available as a hero class. A player's first dracthyr can be created without additional restrictions, but creating another dracthyr character will require a pre-existing level 50 character on their realm of choice.[4]
- The dracthyr were created by Neltharion 20,000 years ago.[5]
- They had a racial trait, [Familiar Skies], that was removed during Dragonflight.
- In an interview in April 2024, game director Ion Hazzikostas stated that more classes will open to dracthyr at some point "early" during The War Within.[6]
