During a Checkuser investigation of vandal activity on simple:wp, multiple SUL accounts were discovered which have been used for cross wiki vandalism. The main target seems to be the Russian wikipedia and most of the accounts were locally blocked there and are now blocked on simple as well but can be used elsewhere

• Mitrius. (imposter of ru: admin Mitrius)

• Rk65 (used to create the already locked account 'Ярослав Блантер (пидарас)')
• Sliva20

The first three were created on Simple, the last was on idwiki. The range used by the vandal has been blocked for the time being at Simple and should not be creating any more accounts there for a few months. Creol 11:42, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

My 60 and so edits on en.wp with "verdy_p" were not noticed, I did not see when SUL had overriden the logon. I don't care about the 60 and so edits, so "verdy_p" can be renamed "verdy_p2008". But anyway, how could I avoid using it to signal the problem to EN.WP bureaucrats or stewards or others?

If only SUL had warned me before creating the account... This could happen to anyone at any time, even if all his current accounts are merged: it's enough to just visit a new wiki, where your username is already taken by someone else. As long as you stay with SUL enabled, if the other person requests his renaming, your existing account o the other wiki under a different name will become inaccessible and magically replaced by another "fresh" account.

I really consider this as a serious bug of SUL. And relying on renames is the worst solution adopted to solve it; it can only be temporary but it will cause serious problems in a very near future because the number of conflicts generated by SUL automatic creations will explode, and new users will experimnet difficulties if they don't start by creating their account on the English Wikipedia before getting somewhere else.

OK, looking into your situation, am I understanding this right:

Your global account is Verdy p however you edited the English Wikipedia as Verdy P.You asked for your Verdy P account to be renamed to Verdy p2004 and this was done. The account Verdy p was then renamed out of the way to Verdy p (usurped). However the bureaucrat that dealt with your request could not finish the process (by renaming Verdy P to Verdy p) because you had already unified your global account. You have since been able to sign in as Verdy p through your global account and have edited under that name- now having about 60 edits.

One of the problems is that the contributions of two accounts cannot be merged, they can only be renamed. It would be more straightforward had you not edited enwiki as Verdy p when the renaming process was only partly complete. What I could do is rename Verdy p to Verdy p2008 and then rename Verdy P to Verdy p. That would mean your account with the most contribs on enwiki would be part of your global login. Is this what you want. It would require your global attempt to be temporarily deleted while I did this - you can then recreate it afterwards. A request for the deletion of a global account can be made at <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/SUL_requests>. The stewards may require you to take a few simple steps before they action the request to make sure you don't lose any accounts in the process.

Hello, I'm User:Beamathan (universal account), and my nickname is Beam. This being so I created this account user:Beam to preempt anyone messing with me and because I sign with Beam so that if a user tried to goto the user page or talk page of "Beam" they wouldn't be misdirected.

Anyway, I tried to universify User:Beam, and it seems that the prior User:Beam got banned at the Italian wikipedia in October, 2007. Unfortunately I do not speak Italian and can not get unbanned through it.wikipedia.com.

Help! I clicked Unify Accounts from both WikimediaCommons AND En.wikipedia and in both cases was left with a result showing that wiki as the only wiki "unified." As if each site was unified with itself, but not the other...?!? Both accounts use the same ID, PhotoBoothe, the same valid e-mail, and to the best of my knowledge use the same password. En.Wikipedia should definitely be my home wiki. According to CentralAuth, en.wikipedia is your home wiki, meta, commons, and fr.wikipedia are merged automatically. Something I note, though, is that there is a user "Photoboothe" which has Commons as its only wiki. I assume this is the problem.

The solution would be to place a request on Commons as PhotoBoothe, requesting the "PhotoBoothe" account there be renamed to something else (PhotoBoothe_old perhaps?) and your "Photoboothe" account renamed to "PhotoBoothe". Return here and tell us it's done, then we can delete both global accounts to allow the bureaucrats at Commons to perform the renames, then you simply log in as PhotoBoothe everywhere, from then on.

I'd like to make sure, however, that you understand that once you request the accounts be deleted, it's rather important that you log out of your account: If you visit the rename page again while logged in, it will simply recreate that account on Commons and cause problems with the rename. Once they note that the renames have been done, you can log back in to your newly-renamed account and merge your accounts under SUL. Also, please make sure that you have a valid, confirmed email listed in special:preferences in order to ensure you can retrieve your password if needed. Kylu 01:56, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

You don't need to delete your SUL to have your accounts renamed.

For Simple Wikipedia: Visit simple:Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the directions.

For Marathi Wikipedia: Contact mr:सदस्य:अभय नातू and ask him to rename your unwanted account ("Deepak D'Souza") to something else ("Deepak D'Souza unused" perhaps. Doesn't matter really.), and your preferred account ("डी. डी.") to the global username ("Deepak D'Souza"). While there is a warning message that will display to the bureaucrat, in this case that is normal and he can continue with the rename. Thankls for your replies. Actually, that was the mistake I made. I should have put my email address on the Marathi Wikipedia account("डी. डी.") and authenticated it, but i did not do that beforehand. So when i created my SUL, it uses the new SUl iD (Deepak D'Souza) on the Marathi Wikipedia(I havent made any edits so far from the new SUl id on Marathi WIkipedia). I will try what Kylu has suggested. If it works fine then it would be great. Otherwise the SUL will have t be deleted first and then recreated right?

For birdy's question: I primarily edit on four areas: English Wp, Wikimedia Incubator(as Deepak D'Souza), on Simple English Wikipedia as "D. D." and Marathi WIkipedia as "डी. डी.". I assume "interwikilinks" are the links links under "Sister-projects" on this page; unfortunately the Spanish link is not there. Instead, I have looked here [30] and guess this Spanish page [31] is the only Name Request page similar to this one. Hi. I have an account in the Bulgarian Wikipedia, but also one in the English one. The problem I face is that my English one is en:User:Veni Markovski, while the Bulgarian one is in Cyrillic bg:User:Вени Марковски, and now I'd like to have the English account to be the same as the Cyrillic one, so that I don't lose my edits made with my English accounts. I don't know if I am formulating the question properly, though - sorry in advance; I just want to be able to login with one username, which will reflects all edits I've done. Hello Вени Марковски, there is a global account registered for 'Вени Марковски' for 'Veni Markovski' not. If You want Your username renamed (whichever of both) You will have to make a request at the wiki locally if there are active crats. For en.wiki please see [34], if You decide to have 'Veni Markovski' be renamed to 'Вени Марковски' You don't have to ask for deletion of Your sul account, renaming works even if sul is activated (it would work also in the other direction but if You chose to abandon the username 'Вени Марковски' completely and change to the latin script I recommend to delete the sul to prevent automatic creations). I was trying to create on en-wiki same account as on ru-wiki (ru:user:AVB), but this was prohibited because account en:user:Avb already exist. I create en:user:AVBr and by mistake link it into SUL. Now this SUL account interfere with my local ru-wiki account - when I log into en-wiki, this also re-logs on ru-wiki from local account AVB to AVBr. PS. You could make a redirect from User:AVBr or User:AVBf to User:AVB, and then only use AVB. • A bureaucrat on the English Wikipedia can rename the old account and then rename it back, but you'll need to request it on the English Wikipedia rename page. I'm not sure if the rename policy there allows for this? Kylu 01:39, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
