Support Theme: Custom Display for Plugin/Theme reviews

Reported by: ipstenu's profile Ipstenu Owned by:

Description

Previously, the page that displayed reviews would show the content of the first review.

With the new Plugin Directory design, we can see the first reviews at https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/#reviews

But the link to read more only shows the title and the star: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/reviews/

Recommendation: The reviews page should show the following

  • Title
  • Stars
  • Content of first post

But! It should only show 10 reviews at a time, so as not to make the page insanely long.

We've discussed this ticket in design triage today. Two things we've noticed:

When you click the reviews tab, you move to a different environment: the forum. It took a while before we noticed. This is where the flow gets detached and it gets confusing for users, it's unexpected behaviour. This may probably need a new ticket, as it addresses a different problem.

The problem mentioned here, is a difference in displaying the reviews on the ticket and the forum. The latter only shows title and rating, you'd have to click to see the content. The 'read more' link mentioned in this ticket's description is not there anymore (or do you mean the 'read all-link at the bottom?), it's unclear you can read the review by clicking on the title. Same goes for the fact that you're moving to a different area when you click the title or read all.

We suggest a more consequent display of reviews on both the forum and the plugin page. Besides that we'd think that it would be useful to make it clearer that people are moving to a different environment. Because coming back from the forums to the plugin page requires a click on a different location, which is not intuitive.

  • Milestone set to Q1

Let's take a shot at the code. If it's easy to implement then we might need some design help.

Based on my interpretation of the ticket, I attached screenshots above.

There would need to be some truncating for long reviews & such.

Some reviews are very wordy and "good" compared to others, should this perhaps instead be limited to excerpts? I do agree that it's easier to get a feel for a plugin or theme if you can just look at the overview without being required to click through though!

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
