History

Power Princess was a construct created by the demon Mephisto[1] and programmed by the Power Elite in cooperation with a recently-revived Agent Coulson to be a member of the Squadron Supreme of America, a superhero team sponsored by the U.S. Government. But secretly to further Coulson and Mephisto's schemes. She was seen being conditioned and repeated things like how she was a Utopian who hailed from Utopia Isle, a paradisiac island populated by warrior women. That she loved America even more, and swore to defend it. Coulson also had her lust for fellow teammate Hyperion, who was there with her, and be more wild and arrogant like Thor or Wolverine before they went soft.[2][3]

Her civilian name was Zarda Shelton, who practised boxing as a hobby using a dampening necklace to decrease her superhuman durability and strength.[2]

Power Princess and her team were brought in to meet General Ross in order to be the U.S.'s response to the now-unaligned Avengers.[4] The Squadron Supreme was later put to the test against King Namor and his Defenders of the Deep, countering several attacks against Roxxon in American waters.[5][6]

After the death of General Ross[7] Blur's teammate Col. Joseph Ledger aka Doctor Spectrum now in charge, was seen with Coulson who showed him the conditioning and manipulation Coulson and the Power Elite were putting his teammates through. Seeing what Coulson was doing as torturing fellow citizens, Ledger wanted it all shut down. But Coulson uttered a trigger phrase putting him under control, and revealing that what Coulson was doing do Zarda and the others he was also doing the same to Ledger.[2]

Zarda was sparring when a group of Frost Giants from Jotunheim invaded Washington on behalf of Malekith the Accursed during his War of the Realms. As Power Princess, Shelton met up with the rest of the Squadron. They killed some of the Frost Giants and routed the remaining invaders to the Canadian frontier in Lake Erie. Coulson subsequently dispatched the team to Ohio.[2]

Coulson attempted to warp reality using the Pandemonium Cube provided by Mephisto,[3] creating Earth-21798, where the Avengers never existed and the Squadron Supreme were the world's premiere superhero team.[8] Reality was eventually restored by Blade the Vampire Hunter and his team of Avengers. So, Mephisto punished Coulson by trapping him in the Pandemonium Cube. Without Coulson, the Squadron Supreme fell apart, and Zarda was taken into government custody. When reality returned to normal, Zarda possessed her Earth-21798 counterpart's memories. When questioned by government officials, she attacked them.[3]

Later on, she with remnants of the Squadron Supreme of America were seen in Western Russia's Ural Mountains where Hyperion had gone to hide and get help from the Red Widow. Once they arrived, Doctor Spectrum attempted to arrest the Red Widow under the believe she was using Red Room brainwashing techniques on Hyperion. But Zarda had other plans, she killed Doctor Spectrum and feeling the Power Prism belongs to someone like herself took it. She then halted Blur from wanting to kill Red Widow by reminding him that they were no longer puppets of Governments or Devils. Feel the Red Widow knew what it was like confronted her, and she told them that she was using these techniques to help Hyperion undo what was done to him. Zarda would like that, and to Hyperion's horror she would allow Red Widow to continue, seemingly for Zarda's own ends.[9]
