Spatial computer that seamlessly integrates the functionality of a laptop with the capabilities Of Augmented Reality (AR). A 100-inch virtual workspace replaces the need for a physical screen. Spacetop G1 adapts to various environments, whether at home, in the office, or on the go. This represents a step forward in integrating AR technologies with daily tasks. Spatial with AR transforms how we interact with digital content, personally and professionally. The real test will be in its execution. The usability of the AR interface, the battery life, the comfort of AR glasses, etc., are crucial. I believe Sightful has managed to address these practical concerns effectively. This measure, part of the broader "National Infrastructure Bill" enacted a year ago to close Israel's major infrastructure gap, is HUGE. It aims to overcome the "Utility Coordination" challenge, notoriously the weakest link in every project life cycle — key to delivering Israel's mega-projects on time over the next decade and essential for sustaining rapid economic growth. Why is this so crucial? - Israel's productivity gap (GDP per hour worked) is the biggest challenge to realizing its economic growth potential. - Alongside the demographic challenge, aggressively addressing the "Infrastructure Gap" is a top priority. - Approximately 25% of the productivity gap is attributed to infrastructure deficiencies in transportation, particularly mass transit. - Over the next 10-15 years, Israel will invest more than NIS 0.5 trillion in capital projects for Transportation and Energy (1.5-2% increase in investment of GDP annually). Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. Platform as a Runtime? Is this the Next Step in Platform Engineering? 🤔 Lessons learned from Wix developing and operating 4000 microservices - an excellent write-up by Aviran Mordo 🪐 VP eng. Takeaways: ▶️PE today is focused on CI/CD and getting started experience. We expanded this problem by building Platform as a Runtime (PaaR). ▶️ Complex environments demand standardized coding practices. We translated these into an opinionated development platform. ▶️ We automatically take care of most of the system's cross-cutting concerns. For example, encryption of PII fields, handling GDPR, and more. ▶️ Additionally, any new feature added to the platform is automatically available and active on all services built within the platform, saving cross-company efforts. ▶️ Should you build your own PaaR? Only after you scale to thousands of microservices, you could start building a platform. My thoguths: ▶️ Having watched Aviran’s #QConLondon talk on the same topic, this is a demonstration of the value a runtime brings to large-scale microservices-based deployments. ▶️ Many of the goals (let developers focus on writing business logic), features (cross-cutting concerns of distributed apps), architecture (sidecar, shared sidecar), and direction (polyglotism) the Nile project is undertaking are the exact same goals of Dapr. ▶️ Wix is a huge company with custom needs for a custom PaaR. Not every organization can and should build their own PaaR as Wix can (nor build their own Kubernetes). For many organizations, @daprdev will get you to 80%. As Aviran said: “the most crucial KPI for the platform team is developer adoption." If developers aren't using your platform, it might not be delivering enough value. Amazon Web Services (AWS) #CloudWatch is an amazing product by AWS that can help #finops engineers master their visibility on utilization metrics and gain insights on how their environment looks outside the Financial reports. If the cost reports tell you "how much it costs", CloudWatch tells you "how your cost is being utilized". This tool catalyzes this change in a world where #FinOps is moving from cost conversations to efficiency conversations. I love this customer story, as it demonstrates how much power #finops engineers have to preset data to #devops engineers that insist they are working "optimally". Thank you Judith Lehner for your help making this happen!
