During his childhood, Gil Kenan and his family moved from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles in 1984. He grew up in Reseda, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region. He got into a summer internship program called "Inner City Filmmakers" after he graduated from high school. Kenan's first paying job was as an editorial intern on Tony Scott's "Crimson Tide." During UCLA Film School, a short film he made got screened at the Director's Guild of America for the UCLA Spotlight Awards and got signed soon after by CAA.
