All of these people are still living making free use photos obtainable. As for the current use of this photo on The Project (Australian TV program) it really doesn't add anything to the section it is currently in. The picture is used simply as decoration and does nothing to increase the reader's understanding in violation of the fair use policy. Majora (talk) 05:36, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keep this isnt about the individuals its a "cast" photo that cant be replicated by individual photos taken randomly on the street. This is supplied by the shows production company in far greater resolution specifically for the article for the purpose in which it is being used. And our fair use policy is strict for a reason. "Use on Wikipedia" means absolutely nothing to us. It is actually a speedy deletion criterion. The burden is on the one that wants to use it to prove that it meets all items of the fair use policy. It doesn't. And no other crew photo would on any article of this type. Delete - The cast of the show are all living people, so a free photo could be made, and in fact free photos exist for each of the cast members do exist. Unless there is something specifically iconic or especially important about this particular cast photo (as documented by coverage in reliable sources about the photo itself), then this photo fails WP:NFCC#1. -- Whpq (talk) 16:49, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image being used in 2015 NRL season and 2017 NRL season. File was also being used in 2017 NRL season results, 2016 NRL season results, 2016 NRL season and 2014 NRL season, but was removed per WP:NFCC#10c. File was removed from "2017 NRL season" as well be re-added twice, the last time with the edit sum "I swear you Wikipedia administrators enforce such petty policies". If the name on the file is accurate, then its non-free use could possibly justified in the "2015 NRL season" article if that was the first season where the logo was used. In other articles, however, non-free use is typically not allowed per item 14 of WP:NFC#UUI and logos specific to the individual season is preferred. Suggest remove from "2017 NRL season" since the default is not to keep repeating the same logo for the event in articles about each occurence of the event. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:40, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: I flat out removed it from the 2017 article since there is no FUR for that article and as it stands the use of it there is a copyright violation. Yes, I just saw that. For reference, an attempt was made to explain things to the uploader here and here, but their response was to blank their user talk page. I started this discussion because my removing it again would likely only lead to edit warring and NFCC#10c issues are not always seen as a clear exemption to 3RR per item 5 of WP:NOT3RR. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:46, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Eh. I've used that exemption before for this same purpose and been fine. Lack of FUR is a copyright violation so continuing to enforce that is an exemption. As least as far as every sysop I've asked. Delete: Having to crop the photo is irrelevant. There is a free use photo of the person. And a close-up at that. The fair use photo doesn't meet policy. --Majora (talk) 20:34, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Delete per WP:NFCC#1. There's no need for a non-free photo to be used if a freely licensed equivalent can basically serve the same encyclopedic purpose of identifying Smith. Such a file already exists on Commons, so unless this particular non-free one can be shown to be the subject of sourced critical commentary, etc., I don't think it can be shown to meet NFCC#8. The editors working at WP:GL or c:COM:GL may be able to crop the Commons version. Even if they can't, I don't think (as Majora points out), that not being able to do so is really a justification for non-free use. Finally, for what its worth, the Commons image could also possibly be used in Consuelo Kanaga if there's a consensus to do so. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:14, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
