Hi, I just reviewed this article you have been working on for GA and I'm afraid I had to fail it as it simply isn't cited well enough. I have left a full review on the talk page, but I wanted to say that I do like what you have done with the article so far and all the best for continuing the good work.--Jackyd101 23:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image licenses

[edit]

Sorry about the bad licensing job I did on the images I uploaded, I have read a lot about copyright and now have a much better Idea of the right way to licenses Images, I do not have as much time for Wikipedia now that school is out for me, but This week I will try and go back and fix the Images. Do not want to get Wikipedia in trouble. Thanks Max ╦╩ 00:53, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Waterfowl

[edit]

For some reason I can't edit your Ducks question on the Reference Desk (whatever I do, it keeps taking me to random other parts of the page), so I've come here instead - hope you don't mind.

I had a look at your other photos and I'm even more sure now that this is a young moorhen. For a little while, I was half-wondering if it might be a young spotted crake, but that would be markedly smaller than a moorhen and would probably be showing more distinctly barred plumage. If it had been, you'd be pretty lucky as they're rare in Britain.

I can't explain the size differences with certainty, but I'd be inclined to think that it's because the downy plumage is much thicker and fluffier than the adult feathers. A lot of birds have juveniles which appear larger than the adults for this reason - they're bulkier because of their feathers even though they're not fully grown. Moorhens are roughly pigeon-sized, which looks about right from these photos. Thanks for coming back with more pictures; the more views, the more chance of an accurate ID. I hope I've been a bit of help - if you like, drop me a line on my talk page next time you leave a question like this on the refdesk; I don't check it all that often and it's easy to miss things. All the best, --YFB ¿ 00:22, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI Posted following on article talk page: -

"Am responsible for the SS - I do not claim to be an expert on shipping, although I suspect things are not quite as straight forward as may at first be thought. I copied SS with reservations but uncertain of boundaries of the use from primary reference: A lasting Legacy — A 125 year history of New Zealand Farming since the first Frozen Meat Shipment, Ed. Colin Williscroft PMP, NZ Rural Press Limited, Auckland, 2007. This had more material about the ship than other sources, and authors had first hand experience of the (modern) shipping industry. I note a breif google search for SS Dunedin turns up a number of pages which name the ship as SS Dunedin. (http://www.meatnz.co.nz/main.cfm?id=105&lid=8, http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU0705/S00479.htm, http://www.foodweek.com.au/main-features-page.aspx?articleType=ArticleView&articleId=179, for example) However 'SS' was not used in the two other references I sued to cross check facts, which were written by historians rather than sailors. I note the vessel had a steam engine on board - for the compressor - but to the best of my knowledge this could never be used to propel her. Winstonwolfe 00:47, 3 June 2007 (UTC)"

Deletion of "4th AKKA WKC 2006" page

[edit]

Hello,

I noticed that you have deleted my article titled "4th AKKA WKC 2006". Appreciate if you could let me know the reason. I still not able to figure out what policy it could have violated. AKKA is a 501(c)3 organization and the article about it is a tribute to hundreds of volunteers who worked tirelessly to conduct one of the greatest conferences in US. I sincerely hope that the article will be put back in its original form.

License tagging for Image:Replace this image female.svg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Replace this image female.svg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:08, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Could you clarify whether your comment was KEEP at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plot of Les Misérables

[edit]

Hi Shingray,

I thought you made a sound point in your comment at the deletion discussion. If you want that comment considered as a "!vote" it would help to put Keep (or possibly something else) at the beginning of it because the closing administrator, especially faced with such a huge deletion discussion, is likely to miss it. Although !votes aren't decided on a majority basis, it still helps to clarify. Please consider making your comment clearer for the harried administrator faced with the daunting task of reading through that discussion. Thanks! Noroton 05:47, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lindsay Ashford

[edit]

Just thought you might want to know, as you seemed appalled by the state of his bio, that the entry is probably partially autobiographical. Some comments in the first AfD for this entry seem to support this.[1] He appears to be regarded by many as a spokesperson for the current Pro-pedophile activism movement, and to be known to and/or admired by some other current or former Wikipedia editors. Deletion of the unsourced information is still the right thing to do, and it is good that it was reported and fixed. -Jmh123 06:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion welcome at deletion review for Plot of Les Mis

[edit]

After Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plot of Les Misérables closed as a deletion, I'm challenging the way the closing administrator acted as in violation of Wikipedia rules. Your participation is welcome at that discussion, Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 July 14. Please keep in mind that only arguments related to either new information or to how Wikipedia rules were violated or not violated in closing the discussion will be considered. It isn't a replay of the original AfD. I'm familiar with WP:CANVASSING and I am alerting everyone who participated in that discussion to the deletion review. I won't contact anyone again on this topic, and I apologize if you consider this note distracting. Noroton 04:46, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Richard Gooch, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Image placeholders

[edit]

You're the uploader of Image:Replace this image male.svg and its female counterpart. Is there any chance you could create a third, generic one for objects, buildings, animals and so on? 81.157.31.61 01:29, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you give me a SVG (or even just a PNG) file, sure, I can get the mechanical process working. However, I don't have the capacity to create the images; all those were uploaded by me from work by others, so I'd need that step done by someone else. Shimgray | talk | 01:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. Who created the current ones? 81.157.31.61 01:35, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Editor at Large did female, I think, but who originally did male is lost in the mists of time (possibly Geni?). image1, the neuter, was Vystrix Nexoth. There's also Image:Replace this imageb.svg - buildings - which was Geni. Shimgray | talk | 01:40, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've gone to Geni. Also, these placeholders really should be categorised. I would do it myself but can't create the category. (Category:Free image placeholders?) 81.157.31.61 01:52, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it results in the images haveing the wrong template on them. You will also find that the building image does not go to the same place as the people images. I've started fixing it but you need to move User:Geni/fogen to MediaWiki:Uploadtext/fogen and User:Geni/fogenl to MediaWiki:Licenses/fogen.
