SecureWorks, Inc Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, SecureWorks, Inc. is a U.S.-based managed security services provider that protects clients' computer, network and information assets from malicious activity or cybercrime. The company boasts more than 2000 customers most of which are mid sized businesses in a variety of industries. [1]

Company History, Mergers and Acquisitions

[edit]

SecureWorks was founded as a privately held company in 1999 under Michael R. Cote. Cote became President and CEO in 2002. Under Cote's leadership the company grew rapidly and the global client roster soon exceeded 1,800. In 2005, and again in 2006, the company was named to the Inc 500 (2005[2], 2006[3]) and Deloitte’s Fast 500[4]

In 2006, SecureWorks merged with LURHQ Corporation and the new entity continued under the SecureWorks corporate name. LURHQ, which was founded in 1996 in Myrtle Beach, SC and provided managed security services to large enterprises, had similar company cultures and leadership to SecureWorks. Therefore, the merger exceeded expectations for synergy and financial results[5]. With the merger, SecureWorks was able to leverage Sherlock, a program developed by LURHQ, to unify clients onto a single integrated security management platform. Sherlock evaluates billions of events daily to find those that require attention by security analysts who are on staff 24x7x365. Sherlock also provides ticketing and workflow management needed to evaluate, escalate and resolve security incidents.

In 2009, SecureWorks acquired the Managed Security Services (MSS) business from VeriSign, Inc., a trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, and grew to more than 500 employees worldwide.[6] The acquisition strengthened SecureWorks' position as a global, pure-play security services provider and expanded its client roster to approximately 2,600 clients in more than 50 countries, including the U.K., Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Finland, Spain, Brazil and Mexico. This includes four of the Fortune 10. Also in 2009, SecureWorks acquired the then 10 year old dns Limited. This aquision expands SecureWorks global operation to include a UK-based operations center and additional offices in London and Edinburgh. [7]
