In one of the "Did you know" articles 6/29/2010, I noticed a use of "running mate" that I'd never seen before. I found it used the same way in at least one other article. (Specifically, they were http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine_DeSopo and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Allen .) Apparently, in the New Jersey lower house of the state legislature, 2 representatives are elected from each district, and they run together, as a single ticket for each party. So, in that case, the two Republican candidates for the New Jersey General Assembly from District X are considered running mates. I'd never heard the phrase used that way before, but I'd also never heard of electing 2 representatives from the same district before. Does some political scientist know if this is common, and if so, should the definition of "running mate" be expanded to include it? 71.86.122.57 (talk) 09:17, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
