Scandal

[edit]

The men's basketball page shouldn't have mention of the women's team. There should be a new section either soley for the women's team, or a section just devoted to OSU scandals. --Majorpayne27 18:15, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to add a section on scandal, that's fine. What was added, however, was vague, factually inaccurate ("bribes from academic boosters") and poorly written.--Sam Harmon 01:10, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for any section regarding the scandal. The section I wrote was very vague, however, if it were any more precise it would have been nearly the largest section, which would overshadow what the article is really about. I added the section to replace the edits I made to the basketball section, since it also did not seem like the appropriate place to mention the scandal. If a section involving the scandals around the program is to exist, either the rest of this article should be extended, or a whole new article should be dedicated to it.--Majorpayne27 03:16, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Buckeye NutHouse

[edit]

Hi. I've been putting together pages for each of the Big Ten's basketball student sections and was wondering if someone would be interested in expanding and maintaining that of the Buckeye NutHouse. Thanks! --BroadSt Bully 13:55, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would love to help, I was a member of the nuthouse last year, and will be this upcoming year as well.--Majorpayne27 01:44, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baseball

[edit]

Ohio State has a baseball team, right? Bob Todd is the coach of that team, right? Shouldn't there be a section of this article that discusses the baseball team? Dismas|(talk) 03:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Ohio State buckeyes logo.png

[edit]

Image:Ohio State buckeyes logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

School colors

[edit]

Ohio State's official colors for the university are listed here. Visually, they would look like this:    . I believe these colors are used on official papers and university webpages, but it would appear that the sports teams use different shades of scarlet and gray, notably a brighter shade of scarlet shown in this logo. The logo's colors look like this:    .

My question is: should we differentiate the color use for the pages related to the school's sports teams? Obviously the official colors would be used for pages related to the university, but for pages about the Buckeye athletic teams, should we use the brighter colors found in the logo? Frank12 (talk) 15:00, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say stick with the colors identified by the university since those are, indeed, the school colors and that's what the box is for. The slight color variation on the athletic websites may just be an oversight. Unless there is a page that specifies using a lighter shade of scarlet for athletics, we have to assume the colors that can be sourced are the colors to use. I will say, though, that the "official" shade seems rather dark than what I think of as "scarlet". The OSU uniforms seem a much lighter and brighter scarlet than what the university specifies on the style guide. --JonRidinger (talk) 04:07, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've been researching the "official" colors for other Big Ten schools and I was able to find web pages that describe their colors for university-approved documents. Some, like Michigan and Penn State designate official athletic colors, while some like Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have official colors that seem off from their athletic colors (notably the shade of IU's cream color). I don't know why the athletic colors don't always match "official" colors, but after looking into it more I think it's just easier to designate the color boxes with school-approved shades, especially with a university reference. Frank12 (talk) 13:05, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

UPDATE: It appears that Ohio State has come out with an official "secondary palette" of colors. They look like this:    , along with white and black. Frank12 (talk) 15:09, 22 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Ohio State Buckeyes/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

"Buckeye" is defined as "a round hairless nut having no commercial value" by fans of archrival Michigan whose mascot is the wolverine, an animal some OSU fans claim was known by Native Americans the "skunk-bear." Yehhbut 17:05, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
