for some reason, the title of the page and the beginning of the article spell his name differently

What a lot of bullshit this article is, quite unbelievable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.203.235.182 (talk) 04:07, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Count"

[edit]

I have removed the title of "Count" from the text and illustration of the article. "Count" was an invention of American authors writing after Rezanov's death, and is not to be found in contemporary biographies and descriptions of Rezanov during and shortly after his life. Please check the Russian language wikipedia page on Rezanov for verification. The title "Count" is not to be found. His accurate titles were "Court Chamberlain and Cavalier, Ambassador Plenipotentiary " Ltkizhi (talk) 19:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • His actual positional titles were: "Actual State Counselor", "Actual Chamberlain", and "Ambassador Plenipotentiary". A review of a broad range of Russian language sources (beyond Wikipedia) indicates that Soviet era biogrpaphic sketches omit noble titles as a rule but retain mention of positional/rank titles. Biographical sketches that hark back prior to the Soviet era do use noble titles and in Rezanov's case the title is "Graf" - usually translated as "Count". If you wish to continue this dialogue, kindly provide references to the "contemporary" biographies and descriptions you have cited.Moryak (talk) 15:16, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • If you wish to insist that he was not a Count please provide the listing contemporary to his life that does not have him on it. I have asked for it before - see above.Moryak (talk) 19:22, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
