Tone piece?

[edit]

Is "tone piece" the appropriate translation for Danish "Tonestykke"? See Niels Gade#Works: the "Tonestykker" (correct Danish plural?) for organ. Isn't Danish "Tonestykke" just an equivalent of (and a borrowing from?) German Tonstück? In that case it would just mean "musical piece"? Is the meaning different in Danish? In any case, what is, in English, a "tone piece"? I couldn't find a definition in a dictionary. Contact Basemetal here 06:56, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Tonestykker" is the correct Danish plural. However, the word does not have an established meaning in Danish. At least not one a modern speaker can be expected to know. The first few pages of Google results either refer to Gade or are in Norwegian.--Klausok (talk) 17:15, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
