Foley's to Macy's

[edit]

One user has been changing all the Foley's stores to Macy's in this article. Should the name be changed to Macy's or the name should remain Foley's until September 9, 2006? Bucs2004 04:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it Foley's

I think for historical purposes it should stay Foley's. There is already a Macy's South and West list on the Macy's WIKI page. It would be good to see how Foley's was before it becomes Macy's. Not to mention, I doubt that many of the new Foley's-Macy's will make it. Research Macy's history in Texas to see how successful Macy's has been here. Macy’s is a great store, I just don’t see that many Macy’s making it here, given all the trouble Macy’s has had in the past in the Texas market with Macy’s and Bloomindales. --020808 22:30, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The stores should be referred to as Foley's until the official 2006 name change. Prior to the Federated acquisition of May Department Stores, Foley's and Macy's were separate competitors. Gebtx (talk) 06:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)Gebtx[reply]

I agree keep it Foley's for historical puroposes. There are several articles on defunct retail chains, for example Joske's, which was purchased by and renamed Dillard's.

I do disagree however with the assertion that Macy's will not "make it" in the Texas market. The troubles Macy's had in Texas were more a matter of bad timing. They (Macy's & Bloomingdale's) were not the only chains that entered the market just before the collapse of Texas' real estate, banking and energy industries in the mid-eighties. Marshall Field's as well as Lord & Taylor both expanded and retreated from the Texas market during that time. IceBRG 19:45, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
