Rivals

[edit]

I removed the "Rivals" section, as it seemed to serve little purpose other than as a list of other manufacturers, and that's what categories are for. If information about how well (or otherwise) Dennis competes with similar companies is useful, it should be incorporated into the prose of the article. Article rename: Dennis Brothers

[edit]

Dennis Brothers Limited owned this business from 1901 to 1970, let's call that 70 years. Dennis Specialist Vehicles carried that name barely two months, December 1985 ro February 1986. Why should that particular name be used?

A new company was incorporated in January 1970 to own the Dennis business and it was called Dennis Motor Holdings. Thereafter:

  • Dennis Motor Holdings (on date not supplied) was renamed
  • Dennis Motors Limited which on 31 December 1977 was renamed
  • Hestair Dennis Limited which on 10 December 1985 was renamed
  • Dennis Specialist Vehicles Limited which on 3 February 1986 was renamed
  • Hestair Specialist Vehicles Limited which on 7 March 1989 was renamed
  • Specialist Vehicles Limited which on 31 December 2002 was renamed
  • Transbus International Limited which was dissolved 19 June 2018

Does a change of name of this article to Dennis Brothers require discussion? Eddaido (talk) 11:19, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Per COMMONNAME, I would see the best choice of name as one which included both "Dennis" and something indicating "vehicles". So I like "Dennis Specialist Vehicles" as most clearly capturing what they did. But one of the "Motors" ones would also meet my criteria.
I'd also note that there's no mention of Felix Dennis here. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:27, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this Andy. I've spent the last 5 minutes reading about Felix. Should he get a mention here? I agree plain Dennis Brothers is undistinguished. Let see what other thoughts emerge. Eddaido (talk) 11:34, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He liked the name so much that he bought the logo and rights to the name for his publishing company, some time in the '90s. I don't know how much this affected the truck maker. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:38, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I hadn't taken that in. Will remember. Eddaido (talk) 11:40, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

One major point, there is already an article entitled Dennis Brothers. Perhaps the two articles should be merged? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 07:15, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
