I don't know what sources provide different dates for his year of birth, but The Social Security Death Index seems like it should be a primary source, and, therefore, more credible than most any other source. According to the SS Death Index, Charles Spivak was born on Feb 17, 1907. You can look up the record directly in the link below. His SS # was 113-10-0233.

Also, I don't contribute here, but someone should clarify that his wife that died in Greenville, SC was Irene Daye, not to be confused with his next wife, Dubby, who, at least as of a few years ago, is reported to be alive and well. Dubby, his next wife, also sang in a band with Spivak, and I have an LP from the 1970's that was recorded live at Ye Olde Fireplace, on which Dubby is credited with vocals.

Anyway, I hope this information helps the authors of this article in some way.

Another source for 1907 is his obituary in the local Greenville, SC newspaper:

Okay... One more note for authors here to help improve accuracy. Charlie Spivak was definitely not a co-owner of Ye Olde Fireplace and was directly quoted on that topic in the following newspaper article from December 1976:

Charlie Spivik was not a co-owner of Ye Olde Fireplace, and was directly quoted on that subject in December, 1976
